Day 9
Riburg to Geiswasser
Day 57 miles
Journey 311 miles
This was a long day and very hard work at the end with a strong head wind. Our planned route along a canal was changed as it was closed, meaning a longer route across country on farm lanes and small villages. We started the day with a swift visit to Basle to get more camping gas, then entered France…our first French croissants.
We then had a pleasant few hours down the canal Rhon a Rhin before we were directed onto the diversion. The campsite was hidden away 4 miles down a small lane and very minimalist, but lovely in the brief time we were there. Camped next to the sweet corn. We are in Alsace, the worlds supply of sweetcorn seems to be grown here. We cycled through acres of it. The harvest is just being finished.
