Maps

  • Maps are best viewed in full screen mode. Click the square icon near the top left hand corner of the map to enter fullscreen mode. Click the similar icon that appears in its place to return to normal mode  – or press esc key.
  • +/- icons (top LH corner) can be used  to zoom in and out in the usual way. Maps will zommin to street level. They can also be dragged to show a different area. Clicking the “house” icon top LH corner returns to the original view.
  • Icons with a bed on them mark the places where we had an overnight stop. (Usually one night, but occasionally for two nights.) Clicking or tapping an icon should produce a popup showing the date we arrived at that location. Note that some browsers may have settings that prevent thepopup appearing.
  • A number of different types of map can be used. Click the icon in the top RH corner which looks like layers of paper to select a different map.
  • If there is a track shown on the map, clicking the blue and white circular icon in the top left hand corner permits the download of the track as a Google Earth file. Clicking on the downloaded file will display the track in Google Earth with all its striking visual effects, including photographic quality ground level views. To do this,,Google Earth has to be installed on the computer you are using. The Google Earth software can be downloaded from Microsoft. Free.
  • Place Markers (small icons on the map showing locations of interest) will usually display a popup piece of text giving information on what is being marked. There is an appreciable pause before the text pops up – be patient. The mouse cursor has to be placed on exactly the right spot on the icon before the text appears. The bst way to find the spot is trial and error. Move the mouse cursor about iver the ico until the text pops up.
