Munich to Vienna
Breakfast in the bakers at Munich was good, as was the Railjet to Vienna. We drank coffee and ate pastries as we sped across Germany and Austria at 160 km an hour – good this international travel. Vienna Hauptbanhof was new, and technical. A station and shopping centre with 90 shops under one roof. Left Luggage was in the basement and fully automated. We had a couple of trial runs before entrusting our bags to a locker for which we would pay 4.5€ to get an electronic key to open. Hmmm, but it did work once we had sorted the instructions.
Baggage free, we were tourists in Vienna on a freezing cold afternoon. We did the embassy quarter and the shopping centre, decided we couldn’t afford pastries, but acquired a large carrier bag of food for the 20 hour train journey to come. We shared a giant pizza at the station restaurant and boarded the Darcia Express to leave at 7.20pm for Bucharest.
